Description: Like all Thai coins, the one-baht shows the image of King Bhumibol on the obverse. Wat Phra Kaew, translated as “Temple of the Emerald Buddha”, is featured on the reverse side of the one-baht.
Story/Symbolism:This one-baht coin was first introduced in 1986 as a copper-nickel alloy coin. Thai speakers commonly call this the “rian baht”; “rian” meaning “coin” in Thai. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, pictured on the reverse of this coin, is located in Bangkok and is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The graceful height and stunning beauty of this building seem to invoke awe and command respect.
